Interior Design

There is a fine distinction between an interior design concept and an interior design theme. Both act as a framework from which further design language can be developed. While a concept deals with the basic planning diagram and defines the relationship among different design elements, a theme is an overlay to a concept that helps tie all of the various spaces together. Theming also can introduce warmth, comfort, and whimsy; offer opportunities for diversion from anxiety and tedium; convey useful knowledge; and establish an effective fundraising platform.

INDUSTRIAL EDGE

When art meets textile.

Exposed brick, piping, and ceiling beams are just a few industrial giveaways, while stripped floors, visible ducts, and even ship bulkheads have been spotted in editorial loft spreads.

The beauty of industrial design ironically lies in its deception: what looks incomplete and unrefined is, actually, the painstaking work of skilled craftsmen and visionaries, to say nothing of the interior trendsetters who dared to look beyond the warehouse’s crude reputation for exquisite inspiration. The industrial aesthetic is masculine but poignant, fuss-free but thoughtful, and the mark of a man who understands that the finer things in life aren’t always the most frivolous or flashy.

By all that, this illustration I made, I mix the colour pantone of edges with the brick wall and some plants to compliments it. What do you think?

Monochromatic color schemes can also afford you the luxury of changing your décor whenever you like. By painting your walls in neutral colors and choosing furniture pieces in the same shades, you establish a base upon which you can layer colorful fabrics and trendy accessories that are easier, and cheaper, to switch out as the seasons or your tastes change. This illustration I made with the balance of monochrome pantone with some woods. It also fits the theme of simplicity.

SHABBY CHIC

Shabby chic is an interior design style that embraces a worn, lived-in look. There’s something comforting yet beautifully curated about shabby chic. Throw in soft colors, a mix of vintage and new decor, and feminine accents, and a picture begins to emerge.

For this illustration, I balance the colour of mix vintage with the pastel look on the patterned textile to fits the theme. Some colour of the woods pops out the element texture.
